Wisconsin Department of Revenue

 Refund Status as of Mid-April

Individual Income Tax Returns filed on paper and sent to the department from mid-March through April 15th will take approximately 10 weeks to process. Any refund due the taxpayer will generally be mailed 3 to 5 days after the return is processed. Returns filed electronically are taking 3-4 days to process with refunds in the mail, or direct deposited, within 5 to 7 days. For both paper and electronic returns, if the return is selected for further review by the department, it will take longer to issue any refund. In many cases, the taxpayers are contacted letting them know their return has been selected for review. Homestead Credit Claims filed electronically will wait for receipt of the W-RA (Wisconsin Required Attachments) before completing the processing of the claim.
